
From the highly anticipated returns of critically acclaimed hits like True Detective and Abbott Elementary to new breakout shows such as Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Shogun, 2024 has already been a great year for TV. But, the year is just getting started and there’s plenty more to watch around the corner. Here are some of the most highly anticipated shows that are still to come in 2024.
The Sympathizer: HBO
Fresh off his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. will make his return to television for the first time in nearly 40 years for HBO’s The Sympathizer. Based on the 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, the show follows a North Vietnamese Captain undercover in the South Vietnamese army who must flee to the U.S. and continue his work as a spy following the conclusion of the Vietnam War. The Sympathizer will premier on HBO and Max on April 14th.
Bridgerton: Season 3, Netflix
One of Netflix’s most-watched shows ever returns this May with season three of Bridgerton. The new season will focus on the friends-to-lovers story of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Full of new twists and continuations of previous season stories, part one of Bridgerton: Season 3 arrives on Netflix on May 16th, with part two arriving on June 13th.
House of the Dragon: Season 2, HBO
The war for Westeros begins when the second season of HBO’s House of the Dragondebuts this June. Following season one’s explosive finale, childhood friends turned political enemies Rhanyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cook) lead their respective sides in a heated war for the Iron Throne. Full of action, betrayal, and, of course, dragons, the follow-up to Game of Thronesreturns to HBO and Max on June 16th.
The Bear: Season 3, FX/Hulu
After collecting 10 wins at the 2023 Emmy Awards, the FX & Hulu’s smash hit The Bear returns for season three this year. The Bear details the lives of several Chicago chefs as they navigate the everyday anxiety inducing challenges of opperating a restaurant. Helmed by stars Jeremy Allen-White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and a slew of incredible guest stars, The Bear returns for its third season on FX and Hulu this June.
The Boys: Season 4, Prime Video
The stacked month of June gets another heavy-hitter when The Boys returns to Prime Video for its fourth season. With the world on the brink, thanks to an increasingly unhinged Homelander (Anthony Starr), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie (Jack Quaid), Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and the rest of the titular boys will face new challenges as they work to keep the dangerous superheroes that threaten their existence in check. The Boys returns to Prime Video on June 13th.
The Penguin, Max
Witness the rise of one of the dark knights most fearsome foes in Max’s The Penguin. The Penguin chronicals Oswald Cobblepot’s (Colin Farell) ambition to seize control of the power vacuum left in Gotham City following the events of 2022’s The Batman. Learn more about the seedy world of crime created by Matt Reaves when The Penguin arrives on Max late in 2024.
Under the Bridge, Hulu
Following her Oscar-nominated breakout performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, Lily Gladstone takes center-stage in Under the Bridge. This true story follows a local police officer (Gladstone) as she investigates the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl. Joining her is the author of the book the show is based on, Rebecca Godfrey (Riley Keough). Learn the shocking truth of this devastating murder when Under the Bridge debuts on Hulu on April 17th.
Star Wars: The Acolyte, Disney+
Return to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Acolyte on Disney+. This latest addition to the Star Wars cannon follows a Jedi Padawan (Amandla Stenberg) and her master (Lee Jung-Jae) as they investigate a series of crimes that forbode the return of the dark side. Set 100 years before The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: The Acolyte premiers on June 4th.
Yellowstone: Season 5, Paramount+
Following the midseason finale in January 2023, Paramount’s hit Yellowstone returns to complete its fifth season. The modern western follows the family drama of the Dutton family on their Wyoming ranch, led by the family patriarch, John Dutton (Kevin Costner). The midseason finale ended on a massive cliffhanger with an all-out war looming over the Dutton family. See how the high-stakes fifth season concludes when part two of the fifth season of Yellowstone arrives this November.
