The 2023 Golden Globes’ attempt at a long awaited comeback only left audiences with a sour taste in their mouths and ended up being nicknamed as “The Oscars’ sleazy distant cousin” once again.

Golden Globes Host Fails to Entertain Crowd
Host Jo Koy may be one to blame for the poker faces and awkward champagne sips during the four hour long awards show after he made distasteful jokes about recent pop culture. He minimized Greta Gerwig’s box office hit Barbie into only a movie about “a plastic doll with big boobies,” and tried to save face by blaming the writers behind his script that were on strike three months ago.
“Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue?”
Jo Koy blurted out
The production’s laugh track worked overtime. Koy continued to displease A listers in the crowd like Taylor Swift, Ryan Gosling, and Robert De Niro by telling them “Yo shut up” with more indecent jokes about Swift’s NFL camera time, Barry Keoghan’s nude scene in Saltburn, and De Niro’s ability to “get her pregnant at 80”.

Gossip Ensues Amongst Celebrities
Behind the distasteful scenes of the Golden Globes, there were chatter between the celebrities themselves that brought attention to watchers. Rumors speculated around singer/songwriter Selena Gomez and the unexpected lovebirds Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. Fans who consider themselves “certified lip readers” claimed Gomez was telling long time friend Taylor Swift and Keleigh Sperry that Jenner did not want Gomez and Chalamet taking any photos together. Sperry allegedly exclaimed “Timothée?” while at the table with the two popstars.

Although followers painted Jenner as possessive, her and Chalamet exchanged kisses and “I love yous” and left onlookers heart-throbbed.
Award Shows Aren’t All That Bad
As for the gossip and drama that the Golden Globes bring to viewers annually, there is just as much laughter. Jennifer Lawrence jokingly threatened, “If I don’t win, I’m leaving” during best actress in a motion picture comedy or musical. Lawrence ended up gracefully losing to Emma Stone for her performance in Poor Things.
Lily Gladstone made history by being the first indigenous person to win best actress for her role in the dramatic film “Killers of the Flower Moon” alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. She accepted the award in her native, tribal Blackfeet language saying “My name is Eagle Woman. I am Blackfeet. I love you,” giving thanks to those around her who worked hard to keep her culture alive.
