We’ve all seen our fair share of heart-dropping viral videos, whether it’s Bunjee jumping from a mountain, horror pranks at night, or someone losing a loved one. The internet is ready to shed a tear on anything remotely gut-wrenching. A similar incident occurred in China, where a 60-year-old woman ended up stuck in an elevator alone.

A Disaster Waiting to Happen
On July 6, 2022, a video was posted to r/Facepalm showing a deaf woman using the elevator while carrying water bottles. Surveillance showed the woman didn’t know her family blocked the door with a box of water to keep it from closing.
She moved the water out of the way, unknowingly causing the door to close and trap the woman within automatically. The rapid closure of the elevator door baffles the elderly guy. The woman attempts to unlock the lift door with bare hands while smacking it and crying in terror.

An Attempt at Escaping
When the deaf woman forced the elevator door open, the automatic safety feature triggered almost immediately. This caused the elevator to stop abruptly at the cement wall separating the levels.
During this terrifying time, the deaf woman saw a tiny opening between the wall and the elevator. The opening appeared extremely narrow, to the point that the woman became stuck halfway through her escape.

The Rescue
After hearing his mother’s cries for help, the woman’s son quickly called the fire department and security. The woman was miraculously freed after being trapped for around 40 minutes. A medical assessment was able to reveal that her health conditions were stable.
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for those to be aware of their surroundings. Responses to the video varied, with some blaming the woman’s actions and others blaming the elevator. Ultimately, what counts is her safety and the fact that she emerged from the situation unscathed.
