We’ve all seen it: what starts as an innocent prank brings about unforeseen consequences. A shove in the pool, a poorly-timed jumpscare, a prank call that goes too far. In most cases, both parties walk away with hurt feelings and, at most, some minor bumps or scrapes. Sometimes, however, things get out of hand.
Party Turned Awry
On January 7, 2024, a video appeared in subreddit r/PublicFreakout showing a reckless prank that resulted in serious consequences. The video takes place at the tail end of a party in Chelyabinsk, Russia. The party had already been going for a while, and the neighbors were reportedly getting fed up with the noise. When the guests refused to quiet down, the neighbors contacted the police. They received a fine for violating noise regulations.
This is where things took a turn for the worse. One of the guests decided to prank the hostess of the party by throwing a smoke b*mb into the kitchen. Hostess Vicki prepared to create a meal for guests when the smoke b*mb suddenly filled the room. In anger, the young woman took the pot of boiling water off the stove and threw it’s contents onto the man’s face.
Consequences of the “Harmless” Prank
According to news outlets, the man received third-degree burns and an ambulance rushed him to the ICU. Other guests also dealt with splashes by the contents of the pot of boiling water. One of these guests, a man named Danil, received second-degree burns despite not being involved with the prank himself. While Danil did not want to provide a statement to the police, he stated that the young woman “will be punished by God” and hopes she will change her behavior.
It’s a warning to those who want to commit harmless pranks, oblivious to the fact that they can go terribly wrong. Commenters on the video ranged from supporters of the woman’s actions to those who wanted Vicki to be charged by police. The police are currently questioning all the partygoers to find out exactly what happened and those involved. Punishment given to Vicki and those involved in the prank remain pending, but victims can only hope for justice.
